These original hand-colored copperplate prints are by Pierre Joseph Buchoz, a French physician, naturalist, and one of the most prolific botanical authors of the eighteenth century. This work comes from Précieuse et Enluminée des fleurs les plus Belles et les plus Curieuses, qui se cultivent tant dans les jardins de la Chine que dans ceux de l’Europe, translated as Precious and Illuminated Collection of the Most Beautiful and the Most Peculiar Flowers Cultivated in the Gardens of China and in Those of Europe.

Published between 1776 and 1779, this important series reflects Europe’s growing fascination with Chinese and exotic plant species during the Enlightenment. Many engravings include Chinese words alongside European botanical names, highlighting the era’s expanding global exchange of botanical knowledge.

Each antique print is over 245 years old and showcases Buchoz’s elegant compositions and delicate hand coloring. The artwork is presented in museum-quality archival framing, housed in Italian gold bamboo moulding with a refined double mat in conservation clear glass. All materials are fully archival, ensuring long-term preservation and visual depth.

These works represent the height of eighteenth-century botanical illustration, blending scientific precision with timeless decorative appeal.
